Month of August 2010

9 August 2010 - National Day

Feeling bored and not in the mood to be stressed by playing videogames, I logged into facebook and saw a cute photo of Harrison.

Feeling creative that day, i decided to do a pastel protrait using the underutilised tablet next to my PC.

Somehow, the colours look different using different monitors.

29 Aug to 31 Aug 2010 - Kota Kinabalu Trip

Took Jetstar flight to Kota Kinabalu on 29th Aug.
The cab from airport to hotel costs RM $30 and I met up with the rest at 2 p.m.
Anyway all my pics are taken from handphone plus with shaking hands it is sometimes blur :(

Went for lunch and then to the nearby market to stock up on drinks, insect repellent for
the next few days.

After which we walked to Centrepoint for a bit of shopping.

Very lucky plaza type of ambience.  But larger I suppose with cinemas etc.
At 6 p.m we walked just opposite centrepoint to "Asia City" for seafood.
Just thinking about it makes me hungry.

Rows and rows of fresh, live seafood for the picking!

Fried sambal kangkong for RM12 = S5.17.  (Ok, not very cheap as it is about same price in Sing)

Stir Fry Sotong for RM 19.00 (S$8.20).

A few seconds slow in taking the pic of the fried oyster so this is how it looks after 1/3 of it was gone.
RM $10 = S$4.31 by the way.

Steamed fish for RM32, =S$13.80

And the highlight......

White Pepper crabs.  Think 3 or 4 small ones for ONLY RM$13.80 which is only S$5.90 !!!!
And it is really delicious!!!  Just look at how they eat below and you will know.

After dinner, we walked back to the hotel to rest.  2 hours later, we had KFC supper. (no pics)

The next morning, 30 August 2010, we went to the jetty to take a 15 minutes ride to Pulau Mamutik.

The jetty.

When we reached the island, we were amazed to see schools of fishes,
puffer fish, clown fish and many more we don't recognise.  Too bad we
were not prepared to go snorkeling as this is our first recce trip.

I challenge you to just count the number of fish in the above pic.

Just look at the right corner and that's all fishes!!!!

Mineral water???  No!  That is how clear the sea water we scooped up is.

Had indomee plus chicken wings for brunch.

Rushed back to clean up and gather at 2 p.m for the Proboscis monkey and fireflies tour.

After 2 hours ride....

Welcome tea comprising fried goreng pisang for us monkeys.... and off we go
for the 1 plus hour boat ride.

I have to say it is quite hard to actually see the monkeys.

Tour guide helped to take the photo.

Went back for buffet dinner (more like economic rice) to wait for night so we can proceed with the
fireflies tour.  Think it is only about half an hour.  A pity really.
Unable to take photos so am just using some pics from the internet to convey the image.

Starry night sky...

Fireflies on tree.  Resembles a lighted xmas tree.

Ok, the above pic is exaggerated but its better to have a good impression.

2 hours ride back..... and we went to coffee shop downstairs for supper.

HorFun, stir fried beef and stewed winter melon chicken soup all for RM24 (S$10.35)

Next morning, last round of last minute shopping.  I bought a 3 piece
canvas art for RM 76.90 (S$33.15).
It is a slight hassle to bring back though.

Waiting for room check-out.

END OF ADVENTURE :(

HOME DIY
Since I bought the 3 pc canvas to redecorate the house. Might as well
take some nice pics to highlight the cheapo rejuvenation projects i did since
i couldn't afford interior designer and massive renovation.

The mounted canvas above the bed as wall feature.
Doesn't look cheap right :)

Round discs attached to wall with bluetac to break the white background.

My $1 dollar flower arrangement using recycled stuff.

The table runner is actually my unused bolster case.

White wall decal on black shelf to make it seem like customised furniture. ($5 dollars only)

DIY clock from ebay.

Glass serving tray dismantled from faulty weighing machine.

Plasticine figurines just for fun.
